How to use LostaFound

Manage hierarchical categories

  1. With Features permission, open Admin > Categories. Select an existing category in the hierarchy to edit it, or choose Add category. Enter a name, parent, order and enabled state. Additions need a unique lowercase ID of at most 32 letters, digits or hyphens; existing IDs cannot change. Saving requires your current password and confirmation.
  2. Default branches are Technology > Electronics; Personal belongings > Bags & wallets, Keys, Clothing, Jewelry; Animals > Pets; plus Documents and Other. Add up to 100 categories and four levels. Choose Top level to create a root. Smaller order numbers appear first within each parent. Names may be changed without rewriting any report. Cycles, missing parents and duplicate sibling names are rejected.
  3. Report forms and browse/admin filters show full category paths. Choosing a parent finds reports assigned directly to it or any descendant, on both list and map; parent counts include descendants without double-counting All categories. Matching alerts for a parent-category report include its descendants, not siblings. The JSON API exposes id, label, parent, order, enabled, active, depth and path at GET /api/v1/categories.
  4. Disable a category to stop new assignments; disabling a parent also stops new assignments to its descendants. Existing listings and their categories remain searchable and editable without forced reassignment. Categories are not hard-deleted, and Other stays enabled at the top level as a fallback. A stale settings form requires reload before saving. The shared Android/iPhone screens read the same hierarchy on online reopen or Refresh.
